"Start the Week" on Play And Creativity

A delight to hear Radio Four's flagship ideas show, "Start the Week", devote itself to a programme long discussion on play and creativity.

It features American writer Steven Johnson and his new book Wonderland, showing how play, fun and festivity have driven innovation over the centuries.

And also Stella Duffy, who has been successfully reviving Joan Littlewood and Cedric Price's idea of Fun Palaces from the 60s/70s. Their practice of "laboratories of fun" - mixing together science and arts with creative glee - is something we are inspired by and hope to learn from in our own "political laboratories".

Pat Kane, one of the founders of The Alternative UK, has been on the play track for a while - see The Play Ethic.
