"What if the only important work left is to care for each other and care for the planet?" asks Greenwich's Care + Planet

We’re always on the lookout for entities and initiatives that might fit our generic understanding of a CAN - a community agency network that aims at raising the vision and exciting the ambition of cosmolocal communities.

Here’s a lovely example, we think, opening up as Care + Climate (at Peyton Place, Greenwich, London, SE10 8RS, 0044 (0)7885 038477). As they describe themselves, they are:

A new cultural space in Greenwich, South East London - a transitions space for holding communities in the now to the next, space for staying with the trouble* and to be in solidarity with one another.

*a phrase borrowed from Donna J. Haraway.

What happens in the space?

Skills and knowledge for a climate altered world

We will be programming different kinds of events and workshops to equip our community to better respond to, take action and adapt to climate change. This might include repair, maintenance, growing, planting, carbon reduction, community organising, adapting and reviving social infrastructure etc.

Emotional support and presence in a climate altered world

We will be offering different sessions that cover healing, witnessing, testimony, exploration of thresholds, loss, mourning, climate anxiety, climate grief, care circles, climate preparedness etc.

Culture-making to orient and entangle us in a climate altered world

We will be curating events, music, expert talks and writing sessions on topics such as the history and indigenity of the local context, narratives of the land, commitments to future generations, design of new community rituals, multi-generational endeavours, as well as hosting community storytelling, collective imagination practices, community dreaming and more.
